What's interesting about that aerial that you linked to Steve is that if you pan around within the photo, it changes from Winter to Spring or Summer.

you can have a 3 season layout based on the bird's eye views - awesome - there really is a prototype for everything ::wink wink::

Right--it's kind of cool, because if you start from the two links I posted, you can pan all around (including the spot that inspired the layout design) and get two completely different angles of the whole area.

I found the same thing in the Pittsburgh area--found I could get two completely different views of the incline on the river. I wonder how many areas have overlapping views, and if they have more than two angles of some locales?

...and then there's all the areas they don't have any views for...

Now I see that I'm the dummy... hadn't noticed the circular arrows on the blue toolbar. If they are enabled, it rotates the angle of view. Up to four angles on the same scene... Duh...

Nice plan David, i see a few problems though, the first being, it's the South.  ;D

Could just as easily be Tacoma... Elevators, yards, trash...
Swimming in a sea of Action Red...

i'm not that up on the line west of Beverly.  i think my best bet would be to model an industrial area of the line in N scale in the SeaTac area.

What a strange coincidence... hadn't noticed until just now... the river that runs beside the area that was used in the plan? The James River.

Hmmm... like this? A bit on the boring side, but easy enough to model.

i'm totally digging this...

the first industry on this side of the siding just off the main looks like a brewery or distillery.
