Before we hear about the lack of pulling power, this locomotive had 350 HP, less than many automobiles, so don't expect much out of it.

As one of the more vocal complainers about pulling power in some models.....

6 40' boxes on level track, 2 up a 2% grade and I would call it a success.  I think you could probably get to 10 and maybe 4 in N scale with tinkering.  Less than 4 on the level would be a disappointment.

On the level I'm going to guess that is about half of what they could have done in real life, but also more likely the level they were likely to be used to move around.  On the grade, I have no idea how well the prototype did....

Plus 'properly' weighted N scale cars are much heavier than their prototype counterpart.

Is anyone else upset that all these new locomotives come with DCC?

I mean if you want DCC that is fine. If mfg's want to make the wiring so that it will be easier to drop a decoder in that is fine. Making it so I have choice but to pay for a decoder, that ain't fine.  :-\

Just because you're modeling the 1950's doesn't mean you have to use 1950's technology to run your trains Chris...   :D

Me , but the last time I complained about DCC I was nearly burned at the stake and many still don't reply to any of my posts today .

Ok, let me get this straight-

Bachmann is releasing a whole pack of steam tenders, a sorely needed item for steamheads and kitbashers, a RTR 44 TONNER and some tourist logging line cars,

And people are arguing about if the weight of N scale cars is proportional to prototype ones?

Did I miss something here? ???

Yes, I am.

But... I'll live with it in order to get a long-sought model.

So, Bachmann's doing a 44 tonner, then, eh?

(I'm sorry, is that what we were talking about?)

Were any of the 44 tonners ever configured with MU?

About the DCC thing.  I wonder if Bachmann can include DCC for next to nothing, given the shear number of products they produce.  Given the low MSRP, I bet you Bachmann is paying pennies for their decoders, and giving you them in a manner similar to giving you the packaging.   :D

N Scale Division already has them listed and is taking reservations.  List price of $75.00.
