Did a little more work on this, 12'7" Woodchip car. Still not happy with the paper ribs so I'm waiting on some .005" styrene to see if I can improve the look.


Started assembling one of Joe Gartman's C40-3 Caboose kits, which is very well detailled and nicely cast.


Started work on the extension to the garden layout. a new loop will head off along the red line and will go around the entire garden connection with the top end of the line in the picture. I have to build a curved 3 part bridge to carry the line over the grass. Hopefully I can make a start on that when I'm off work in in a week.

not much time this weekend.. too much time taken up tearing our porch off.

I did get a chance to experiment with putting mortar on my very first DPM kit.

I've got my door layout to where I can run trains. While testing the trackwork I ran just about every locomotive I have. Gave my 2-6-2 a spin and realized it doesn't fit so decided to sell it.

Somewhere out there, MTL collectors are hyperventilating and passing out.  I love it.  God knows that I've had no hesitation to cut the truck-mounted couplers off, drill and tap the frame to accept body-mounted couplers, and replace the wheelsets on limited run or out-of production cars that I've found at train shows.  Keep up the good work!

Completed the loop, ran a few laps, and went to bed only to find a problem the next morning. The curve on the right side bowed in to the point that the locomotive's drive wheels lose contact with the track. I figure a couple sections of Kato Unitrack and some shims should fix it.

I keep forgetting to fix the date setting on the camera. Of course, everytime I do, my wife runs the batteries down and it gets reset. Thank heavens, it isn't a dorm room. It was taken in the living room of my mobile home, but I do go to a local college. That may explain the messiness, and the I have a little baby that keeps us busy.

It's also surreal in that the track appears to be laid only on Woodland Scenics grade material, with the only support a beat up J .C. Penney cardboard clothing shipping box!    No wonder you've got problems with level track! Put the WS material on a sheet of 3/4" plywood or at least a 2" slab of extruded foam so it has some kind of support.

My Micro-Trains low profile wheelset order arrived from Chuck (Feather River) Saturday, so I put wheels on 50 cars I might put up for sale. Or not.

Ms Dee Rayle took the weekend off.
