Another weekend. I suspect it will be slow, since many of you are off to Louisville.

For me, I installed a six pack of tortoise machines on the mainlines. Next up is getting them wired to stationary decoders ..

I've also finished the artwork for the H-21 rebuilds...  I'll be starting mass production this week.  Also gearing up for the annual July 4 hoo-hah on Friday afternoon... the bar opens at 5, firecrackers over the Choptank at 9...

Browsing through a book on the B&M a while ago, I happened across a photo of a non-revenue car that took my fancy:  B&M 1111, an old open-platform combine they turned into an "Air Brake Instruction Car".  After finding another set of MDC/Athearn Overlands to hack up, I discovered (to my delight) that the combine measured out to be 59' 6.5", the exact measurement of #1111.  So, while the windows don't match the original, I set about adding the details necessary to make it, at least, resemble the car.  Below are the results, another interesting "add-on" to a freight or passenger train.

Far too much work last week meant no modelling for me this week and weekend. So I thought I'd share some photos taken for the 2008 Intermodal Contest which closed in the week prior. This years contest snuck up on me, but it once again got me motivated to finish (and start and finish!) some lingering projects.

I'd always wanted to give this one a go. MTL's printing on their cityscape trailers is awesome, but it's on their far too distinctive Fruehauf trailer, which is nothing like the Stoughton trailer used on the prototypes. The main differences are the bulkhead on the lower front nosewall of the Fruehauf trailer....which a nose job from an Atlas 45' Pines trailer would come close to fixing. Look aware if you are a MTL collector  ;D

Here's a proto photo....which are a bit scarce, so my model isn't based on a proto photo, just a "feel" from what I could find.



Anyway, after some careful tape placement for protection and some scribing:

Like last years contest, it was extremely satisfying to get another project off the wishlist and I was pretty happy with the end product. The kitbash itself was pretty straight forward and it went together without any body putty.  ;D
A quick coat of white on the new nose, some light weathering and detailing and a few Microscale Redon decals later and it was good to go.

I started working on roadbed, trackwork, and wiring. I also ordered more cork and some flex track, my main goal right now is to finish the loop so I can finish breaking in the Athearn 2-8-0, and Overland cars. As of Monday, I have been working on this mini-layout for a month.
