A photo of Con-Cor's N scale Aerotrain showed up today in the weekly New Products review that MR posts every Thursday.

Undecorated:

Much too modern for me, but know some of y'all are awaiting these.

I hope they post a newer picture. That one has been on Con-Cor's web since since April.

I wasn't going to get a set but decided it was a good way to stimulate the economy.  ;D

I'm not a big fan of the moving skirt but what are ya' going to do.  If it is anything like the Zephyr, I'll be very pleased.

It pretty much was. One train I would like, but way out of my price range.

My beloved Rock Island had one, but I'll pass because I can't stomach looking at it for too long. The prototype must have been too "Buck Rogerish" for people back then!

All it needs is a rag top and a pair of fins at the back.

Edit: Just found this interesting article: http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/01/jet-powered-other-futuristic-trains.html

It claims the Aerotrain was based somewhat on the Buick LeSabre Futurama concept car...

Aerotrain did not have the mechanical problems that the X-Train had.  It did, however, ride like a boxcar.  That was its major problem.

CRI&P ended up using them as commuter trains.

Actually Rock Island had one Talgo Train built by ACF American Car & Foundry usuing Spanish Talgo Patents. The locomotive however was the same GM LTW locomotive used on the two Aero Trains. The Jet Rocket was operated long distance Chicago Peoria even had a food service car, was very rough riding, this when RI still had nice trackage. Meanwhile after the two GM Aero Trains finished demo service runs on various roads, NYC ,UP,PRR, they were purchased by Rock Island, the Talgo had been placed in commuter service and the Aero Trains joined it. The railroad probably disconected the nifty TV camera on the Talgo Lococ nose that sent B&W grainey shots to small monitors in lounge & bar section of train, because these cars became straight coach config for commuter service. Unfortunately the Talgo Train was scrapped on retirement, but RI did donate the two Aero Train locos each with on ecoach and tail car to the National Museum of Transport in St. Louis and the National Railway Museum in Greenbay ,Wis.        can't wait for my Union Pacific "City of Los Vegas " model when they are released.                                 Ntae Goodman (Nato).
