Weekend Update - June 8, 2008

Dave,
I replaced the trucks on the grey washroom lobby car with the short extension couplers... That gets them closer when coupled with the stock medium extensions on the red cars.  If you put short extensions on all of them, you'd probably have to remove the diaphragms altogether, which on the WM would be fine.

Now to work on that ride height...

Up to #7 of my SP 40' Yellow Stripe Rebuilt Box Cars. All up I"ll have eight extended and two standard versions. The doors are from Mocalova which have been milled down to a more realistic thickness. I've also lowered the ride height, added air lines, MT 905 couplers and fitted FV wheelsets. I also replaced the original door tracks with longer items.

I'm really looking forward to the paint, decal and weather phase. 

These are IM kits btw.

I didn't get a whole lot done as I'm working hard finishing up school for the year. I did put in some glue shell though.

and a beefed up frame are among the yellow stripe' spotting features...

Yes the sills are beefed up on the prototype. As it's taking me weeks to get these finished, I decided not to fill them. The 16 doors alone took hours to mill!

I'm hardly a rivet counter, but if you spent all that time milling correct doors, why wouldn't you be bothered to put them on in the right location?
And Skibbe makes a very valid point.  Better get back to the workbench...

36 hours without electricity - my plans to speed match my motive fleet will have to wait until later this week.  Thursday i clean out the train  room area and begin some "demolition" - we'll see how much i get done.

i need to borrow some Kato track from the SuessCaboose for the speed matching.

Phill clean up your work area...got one heck of a case of the "hurls" on Sunday and didn't get much done. Backdrop panels are up and took a train trip with our grandson to Hanford, south of here and back. Birthday was Saturday and Chuck, I got a present - More dough for FRTS.

Okay you bunch of rivet counting asshats!  After a bit of navel staring, I've now decided to add the larger sills and move the doors on my last three cars. If all goes well I'll do the rest. My wife will get me the required styrene tomorrow, while I work out how I'm going to tackle it. The doors wont really be a problem - remove the door jam, slide the doors forward (thanks Skibbe), add a new door jam and finally attach some longer sliders.

The sills are a little more difficult. I'm thinking of cutting off the originals and building up the new sills with .010" x .060" styrene strips (shaped correctly of course). Any of you guys have any other ideas?

Btw, sorry for the terse post above....working 12 15hr days made me realise that my sense of humour was at an all time low.  :

If I'd never screwed up something similar myself, I wouldn't have caught it until the decal slid off the paper either.  Thought I'd raise the point before you got the paint down.
