Anyone have any idea what this is? The tender has Atlas stamped on the bottom of it but I can find any trace or history of this guy.

I have that shell. It is from a Atlas IHB 0-8-0. Maybe someone added a front pilot wheel? The tender could be from a Atlas 2-8-2/4-6-2.

Thanks Chris. I think your right. The loco shell looks just like an Atlas 0-8-0. Someone either added the pilot or was able to fit the shell over another chassis of something else.

You should have combined that with that caboose the other week as a custom train set , one of a kind .

Yes, that is the Atlas IHB 0-8-0. Kadee (now Micro-Trains) actually sold the  1042 kit to convert it into a 2-8-0. It consisted of a pilot truck and a pilot beam-footboard pilot assembly extended from the 0-8-0 one, plus a frame for the rear tender truck that included a coupler. I have one upstairs I intend to use on a MiniTrix 2-10-0.

Kadee also made an 1100 kit to use on the Arnold 0-6-0 that made it into a 2-6-0.

Sorry to rain on the parade, but that doesn't look like the Micro Trains conversion.

Don't have a pic handy, but I have one of the MT conversions I picked up off Ebay and the MT conversion extends beyond the smokebox - this actually looks like it could be the Atlas IHB body on a Botchmann 2-8-0 chassis with the tender from an Atlas light pacific or mikado.

Wes, hate to argue, but, here is the frame of the 0-8-0 with the MTL conversion.



You will note that the drivers, crosshead and rods are identical, as are the amount the pilot beam protrudes. The boiler shell is completely different.

  I converted one of the Atlas Rivarossi IHB 0-8-0's with the MT conversion kit to have a 2-8-0 in the pre Bachmann days. The 0-8-0's were inconsistant runners, some ran great others very poorly. Mine was a wonderful runner which is why I decided to convert. The conversion was straight forward. Put the loco on the tracks it moved about a half an inch then the drivers went out of quarter. Each time I adjusted them back to spec and with the bottom cover plate on ranging from really torked down to almost falling apart loose the drivers managed to make about two revolutions then blooie out of quarter again. So I gave the loco to a then N gauge guru Kent Hunt who had done verious conversions with the Atlas Rivarossi & later Con Cor version steamers. He came up as baffeled as myself. He never could get it to work. So it was turned back into an 0-8-0 and it runs just fine. "Go Figure."                                         Nate Goodman (Nato). Salt Lake, Utah.

After Gregg posted his message I took a look and could see that it was the conversion kit installed. I could even see "Kadee" stamped on back of it, which was a blast from the past.

If it's any consolation, I like yours better :)

I might dig mine out and try and post a pic, but looks like the hard evidence for it being the MT conversion is there.
