M. B. Klein is advertising Life-Like (Walthers) Berkshires for $71.99 (actually 20 percent off $89.99) in C&O, NKP, PM, and undec. Over 20 of each in stock.

No affiliation, but that is a bargain. Too bad they won't fit on PECO turntables.  :'(

Oh man...  the NKP Berk just about lived on the WM in the early 70's...  Too bad the cupboards are bare...

The market for these seems to have gotten way over saturated. Klein was dumping them on ebay last year, then Walthers was blowing them out at 79.99, now Klein has dropped the PM's to 59.99

Just a quick question guys, how good are they?
Been after some good N Scale Steam for some time now and these seem to fit the bill perfectly, even though they are not in roads in am particularly interested in.

They run silky smooth with great electrical pick-up.

They are a little light up front on sharp curves. Sometime the front driver will ride up on the rail. I fixed that with added weight and it now goes around 9.75" curves just fine.

Also no traction tire so they don't pull as well as a Kato Mike.

If it had a traction tire it could pass a Kato Mike.

I ordered a NKP berk the day before this topic started. Even if they lowered the price further at ~$70 I can't feel ripped off.

Anyone convert a Berkshire to DCC?  I understand that it may be a nightmare.  I would love for someone to prove me wrong, because at those prices, even I might be tempted to purchase a steamer.

I've converted my LL 2-8-4's to DCC. You have to completely dis-assemble the loco, to isolate the motor from the frame, and solder grey and orange wires to the motor. The rest of the wiring is accessible in the tender. If you take your time. this installation works out nicely. It is a more difficult installation than the Kato Mikado. I've done over 50 DCC installations in the Kato Mikado. Six for the LL Berkshire 2-8-4.
