Change in MTL's marketing strategy, or seeing double.

Has Micro-Trains finally listened to those modelers asking for more than one car number? I notice that aside from the "runner packs" of 4 cars, more of the new announcements are coming in at least two car numbers. Two of this month's new items come in two car numbers each.

I find this interesting. Comments, anyone?

I think that they started this with their Z scale releases.  It probably encourages people to spend double!

That would be great. I could use another Smokey Bear boxcar!

Lol @ Kiz, but I know that I'm a sucker for duel numbers of stuff. I almost always bite for both. My rationale is that this way I'll have one load and one empty on the layout. I don't plan on being that exact (for example, all CSXT 50' boxes similarly equipped will serve the same "pool", meaning two of the trainman WA cars might be moving together, or they might be mixed in with some older Family Lines and ex-WM cars).

I just hope that this doesn't mean twice as much, but half as often.

I have noticed that a lot of times with the first or second release of a new body style they'll release it in 2 road numbers (They did for the Evans Covered Hopper also), which explains the tank cars.

I'm a bit surprised they also did 2 road numbers on the drop bottom; two doubles in a month is almost unheard of.

And if you noticed last month, they did two black 105-series gondolas (C&O and Reading), two silver 020-series boxcars (UP & DRGW) and two Scale Test cars (BN & NH).  I suspect it might partly be a production issue; duplication at any step reduces time and cost to produce stuff due to learning curve efficiencies.

Strange, for two reasons.  One, the locomotive trucks - how could that slip past their approval process?  And two, the concept is weird.

Their art department does seem to have a history of problems with locomotive trucks...

Probably some high school dropout who knows nothing about railroads, or maybe it's the boss' kid...

It's pretty obvious that their artwork is composed on a sketch of the bodies, and doesn't include trucks.  So, apparently the art department, sorry "Creative Services", has to add the trucks into the ad copy.

Can you tell the company is run by non-model railroading women yet?

That's not a problem... That's the mysterious "ET" model...  but it was only sold by EMD to other planets... ;D
