I started tinkering with a decoder installation in a big steam engine.. but not much progress to report other than it runs well...  I have to get the damn lights to work now... but I've been up to my eyeballs in some deadlines today, so that's about it.  I did go out and buy an air compressor yesterday... first project?  Filling up Andy's bike tires...

Worked on my 0-8-0 tender:

Had to swap out the completely useless MP trucks for Kato caboose trucks, the sideframes are cut from a Con-Cor 2-10-2 tender.

I don't "love" this tender, but it is what the C3's used. I can still wuss out and use the stock tender to model a C1 if needed.

After cleaning off the work bench a bit, all I did was play around with more scenery.  Some 4mm silflor grass and soft pastels for coloring to bluffs.

Richie,

The flub would be the tender truck sideframes being too thick. Usually gluing sideframes over the caboose trucks work because the truck is tucked away under a car, but this round tender really shows it off.


In case any one wondered. I cut the contact tabs off, soldered wire to the back sides between the wheels. Then I drilled holes in the bolster and ran the wires up through there and into slots cut in the body.

I started modifying an NW2 chassis to fit under Randy's SW1 shell, and I would have pictures but my home server seems to have fallen over. If the timed reboot fixes things I'll be able to post tomorrow, otherwise nothing until next weekend.

Minnesota weather is finally permitting me to work in the garage in relative comfort.  So, I  got back to work on the layout.   Mostly getting my switches ready. 



and some bridge placement...


I got a little cold, so then it was inside to layout number two, to wire up my switches there.. Yep, two layouts.  One for the garage, and one for indoors during the long minnesnowta winters


and test out some wiring.

I used my airbrush for the first time (not counting the water test): painted the stairs for a microstructures kit I'm working on (need more paints!!!).  also recieved most of an order from walthers (fedex left a box in chicago) for the roundhouse and 130' turntable, etc.  planning continues for a new layout I'm looking to build.

I got nothin'.  I just followed the doctors orders and stayed off my feet as much as possible.  I spent most of the weekend poring over the 6+ years of Classic Trains I have in the book case.  I've said it before and I'll say it again.  That's without a doubt my favorite railroad mag.  It's very well done, kind of unusual for Kalmbach these days.

Scott Teague told us of a guy with terminal lung and pancreatic cancer that was asking for help to get his trains running before he died. He had some work done, but with a single feeder wire.

Yesterday, several of us went to his house and finished laying his HO track and wiring it so he could play before his time is up.

Nothing to show for me. Just working on MANY new item artworks for Louisville and Anaheim. Should start building them soon and will have plenty to show then.
