I went with the Pergo style wood for this time around.  The wife complained about all the stains on the carpet previously.  So far everything sweeps up easily, even plaster drops.

I wouldn't have to worry about the wife complaining about stains, she never sees the train room.

Maybe it has something to do with the lock on the door...NAAAHHH. ;D
