For all you PRR/PC/CR guys: 8 door PS = X60E and 4 door PS = X60G.  I have not seen too many X60E's, but the X60G was very common.  Fantastic choice for a prototype for this model.  How are Bluford shops other models?  I only recall the cabooses.  Thanks.

My understanding is that the 8 door cars were preferred by GM.

Extended
draft gear is exciting me greatly.  Milwaukee Road 8 door for now, and waiting for more...

Not to be the "turd in the punch bowl", but the drawings are of the prototype, not the model.

All
hopes now dashed.  Thanks Tom...

Ah, repaints. I was hoping for new body styles. I don't count new paint schemes as "new releases", since no one does the PenMarVa scheme. Good thing too, considering I haven't finished designing it yet.

hmmm, I wonder if N&W had any of these ... (had to find out about this at work ... where I have no info!)

N&W had all three builders... P-S, Thrall and Greeneville...

Were any of these cars converted to carry wood chips by removing the roof?

Bob, don't think the underframe is strong enough for woodchips. These are 70 ton cars. Made to carry auto sheet metal. Bulky and light. They couldn't use them to haul kitchen stoves and washers and dryers...too heavy. Many of these cars frames were bent(hogged) by too heavy a forklift pulling into them.

The car is simply too large in terms of cubic capacity.  Woodchips are about 25pds/cu.ft dry (so 10000cu.ft of them would wiegh ~ 125 tons, even more when damp or wet)

A car's weight capacity is determined by the bearing size and axle wheelbase of the trucks, asnd the center sill is designed to be able to exceed this for obvious reasons.

I highly doubt a too heavy forklift would bend the center sill, even if the car were fully loaded to max axle capacity, and the lift was at it's max lift capacity (generally 4 tons... so figure 8 tons for the lift and load)
