Which one? There are several, both light and heavy USRA versions, plus a C&O heavy version. The heavy and C&O versions are already decoder equipped.

The Spectrum  Light Mountain 4-8-2 decoder installation is the same as the Spectrum 2-8-0. It's an easy installation.

The traction tire driver has to be shimmed with masking tape to improve performance. Other than that it's a nice loco steamer to watch. The 4-8-2 is very well detailed.

Stay cool and run steam.... 8) 8)

Can I ask why masking tape? Why am I shimming it in the first place, ie what am I looking to fix/improve so I can see if my shimming worked properly?

Shimming the traction tire driver will improve the performance(pulling power) of the 4-8-2 Light Mountain. This is one of the fixes that improves the performance of this loco which was a big complaint when the steamer first came out.

If you don't want to use masking tape, use duct tape.

If you don't want to use either of the two above tapes... or any other tape of your choosing ::) ;D
