We need somebody to wink at him and offer to go to his room to see his etchings . I think 3rdrails Watermelon car would be something etchings would lend themselves to . I would buy some . A 6 dome tank car would be cool , as would a well hole flatcar .

I'd love to get my hands on a nicely done well hole flatcar too.

One just like this one, the only one LV had:

Flat, 45 ft, well pocket (FW)     9955     1958 Built by General Steel Castings, April 1958

It was even in RMC, 8/68, p. 25 (+ plans) so he'd be all ready to make it ;)

Yeah, I'm a fan of accumates now, too.  For one, they make lowering easier, and two, the 100 ton size looks great on hoppers.  In fact, I just converted all of my IM hoppers over to 100 ton accumates and 36" FVM wheels.

I admit that accumates from days gone by were junk and would fall apart.  They have improved since then.

Accumate hater here, too. Give me MTs, any day.

From what I've seen of Accumates, they don't seem to last too long if you do a lot of coupling and uncoupling. I've also had a few that had to be pushed together pretty hard to get them to couple. Took a lot more force than I generally like to exert on N scale equipment. Most of my fleet had accumates, I've converted them all over to MT body mount couplers. Coupling and uncoupling is a lot easier now, and they're more forgiving if the cars aren't perfectly lined up, do to curvature in the track.

I only had one or two try to fall apart, and once snapped back together, they stayed together. I did have one somehow manage to damage its little plastic spring whisker things. I just seemed like the longer I did a lot of coupling and uncoupling, the worse the accumates started to perform. The one on the back of my engine didn't even want to stay coupled, anymore.

I don't mind the Atlas trucks, though. They look and work fine. I just wish Athearn would use the three springs trucks, instead of the two spring style.

I'd prefer the car to be designed for the correct trucks where applicable... i.e, the Atlas 286K trucks have the correct 5' 10" axle spacing and 36" wheels, with an option to bodymount.
