Accumate hater here, too. Give me MTs, any day.
From what I've seen of Accumates, they don't seem to last too long if you do a lot of coupling and uncoupling. I've also had a few that had to be pushed together pretty hard to get them to couple. Took a lot more force than I generally like to exert on N scale equipment. Most of my fleet had accumates, I've converted them all over to MT body mount couplers. Coupling and uncoupling is a lot easier now, and they're more forgiving if the cars aren't perfectly lined up, do to curvature in the track.
I only had one or two try to fall apart, and once snapped back together, they stayed together. I did have one somehow manage to damage its little plastic spring whisker things. I just seemed like the longer I did a lot of coupling and uncoupling, the worse the accumates started to perform. The one on the back of my engine didn't even want to stay coupled, anymore.
I don't mind the Atlas trucks, though. They look and work fine. I just wish Athearn would use the three springs trucks, instead of the two spring style.
