OO to HO

I know the proportions, but in terms of looks how far off is OO from HO scale?

I want to get a few Bachmann Class 158s as they look pretty kick a$$, and I also love the horns on em. I think they would be pretty neat for "experimental commuter DMU" testing on my layout

Ian, if you are referring to UK Class 158 DMU's, they'd probably fit right in with US "HO". IIRC, British rolling stock is about 8'6" wide as opposed to US 10'6".  102"/76x87=117", while 10'6" is 126". The only place you might have a problem is length, if the cars are 80 ft. or longer. An 85' OO car would be 97' in HO!

Bigger. 1:76.2 vs 1:87 (but running on prototypically incorrect 16.5mm track ie HO track)

Sorta midway between HO and S.

So they'd be oversized compared to your HO models.
