WASHINGTON - Beginning Nov. 12 and continuing through Dec. 9, one Acela Express will travel along the Northeast Corridor bearing historical images from the year 1968. The "wrap" of the train is part of an effort by Amtrak and The History Channel to promote the upcoming television special titled "1968 with Tom Brokaw."

The promotion includes an exterior wrap of the train as well as interior signage promoting the show. The exterior wrap, made of vinyl, will appear on both sides of the two locomotives and six cars of the train. The wrap, while clearly visible from the outside, will not impede the view out the train's windows. The interior signage will include advertising posters (illuminated and non-illuminated) plus LED Message Boards throughout the train. "1968 with Tom Brokaw" explores the significance of that year and the ways it continues to affect the American landscape. It premieres Dec. 9.

The promotion was the brainchild of Steve Feder, president of New York's Corporate Image Media, which represents Amtrak in marketing train-wrap promotions.

Photo opportunities for media for the inaugural run of the 1968 Acela Express is scheduled for Monday, November 12 in Washington and New York. The Washington event is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., just prior to the departure of the train at 8 a.m. The New York event will begin at 10:30 a.m., just prior to the train's scheduled arrival at 10:45 a.m.

Perhaps some of you can catch it between DC and Ballamer.  8)

Only thing I remember about 1968 was that my beloved PRR disappeared into an ugly can of worms!!!!

They plan to celebrate by running the train 7 hours late, then losing it altogether somewhere near Albany when the "Green Team" decides it's not their problem...
