I am amazed at the great modeling coming out of Europe. Denny in Italy with his great N scale layout, the Fremo guys in Germany and these pics posted in the weekend forum. These guys can't stroll down to the local hobby shop and for proto photos have to come to America on trips. I'm surprised the "trades" MR and RMC and N scale periodicals haven't down features on them.

There's a guy named Pelle Soeberg (sp.?) that's been featured several times in MR. He's modelling UP (and exceptionall well) and lives in Sweden or Norway I think.

Actually, you could model Finland in N (with the wrong track gauge), since the Re460's of the Swiss SBB were sold to the VR.

I used to go to Finland frequently and once was treated to a ride on a special chartered train to a road rally. I used to stay about a block from the Helsinki main station and would spend lots of time on the platforms - great to see the dingy, dark green, worn out trains from Russia pull in - and the strange stares from their railway workers - the only folks around who were not friendly.

A friend and I almost took a side trip to St Petersburg one weekend but instead took the hovercraft to
Estonia.

Make sure you pick up his book or check in the library under MODEL RAILROADING.
