Hi folks,

I've enjoyed reading posts here and there from Rail Wire and finally decided to sign up.  I've been a railfan probably since I was 1 or 2 years old.  Got my first N-scale in 1971 and haven't looked back since.  I had been away from model railroading for almost 15 years but came back to it earlier this year and am really glad to be back.  My favorite railroads are mostly in the North Eastern US (CNJ, NYC, PRR, PC, NH, etc.) but I've always been a big fan of the Southern Railway (and NS).  I'm from the DC area (Northern Virginia) but have also lived in Northern New Jersey.  My current layout plan is a small 4 x 2.5 N-scale switching layout based loosely on the Bush Terminal Railroad in Brooklyn, NY.  I love scratchbuilding and kitbashing, especially when it involves using MacGyver-like solutions, and have recently completed a boxcab (based on CNJ 1000), a GE 59-tonner (based on units that served the BTR), and a idler/reach gondola (also from BTR).  I also enjoy photographing trains and models, and have recently made a small diorama for doing just that.  Here's a couple of sample photos of what I've been up to:

Welcome! There's a ton of guys here who share both your prototype interests, as well as your geography.  We have a sort of informal sub-chapter of the  :ashat: for the DMV, so its likely we can see you in person if you are still a NOVA resident.  Please make sure topmost early and often - it unlocks a ton of features around here - and I for one want to see your Bush Terminal pike.

Thanks Philip.  Indeed I'm still in NOVA (out near Dulles Airport, in fact).  I'll do my best to post enough to get the goodies and hopefully not bore anyone to tears. :)  As for seeing my Bush Terminal layout, I'll let you see it first (now if I could only find the time/money/etc. to get it built!).   :D

Howdy, all.

I'm living in southern Minnesota and modeling a fictitious bridge route between the UP and C&NW set in SW Iowa in 1954. Been a model railroader since around 1970, first with Lionel as a kid and then with HO. Switched to N scale close to two years ago because of the operational possibilities the scale provides. Simply put, I'm lovin' it.

Started work on my first N scale layout about a year ago. I'm building what I hope will eventually be a 400-square-foot layout ... one HCD at a time.

Greetings to all members of the board!

My name is Gen, and I'm from Marlton, NJ. I'm 46, work in commercial construction for a living, and like to tinker in N scale during my free time. I am a compact layout modeler, and as of late, I've been experimenting with some weathering techniques. I've been lurking for sometime, admiring the work you've all posted. It's phenomenal the detail you are all bringing to N scale modeling.


I'm extremely pleased to finally post, and hope to learn and contribute. Special thanks goes to Tom Mann for his Spam Advocacy that has been extended to those of us with hotmail accounts :D.

Those of us who live on DelMarVa, (the Land of Pleasant Living consisting of the Eastern Shore, of Maryland and Virginia, and Delaware,  scoff at the notion that we would want to be lumped in with you Beltway types.  And just because Jersey has a shore, doesn't make it the Shore.  We've got that covered quite well, thank you very much...

Hi Guys,

Long time reader / first time poster
I have really been admiring the standard of work posted on here & finally got some time on line to join up

Brief background:
I am an N Scale D&RGW modeller from Sydney AUSTRALIA
I model the 1978 era (pre SP/UP) & spend way too much time weathering my locos & rolling stock when I should be working on the layout
I try not to take the hobby too seriously & hope I'll fit in here  ;)
