I was stationed at Dam Neck from 66 to 68 while in the navy and used to cross the NS many times. The paint looked like a silvery gray to me. Seem they were hauling alot of sand in both hoppers and gons. Also used to see a load of scrap metal now and then. Most of the motive power I saw were the Baldwins. Also some EMD but I don't remember what kind. Didn't know it was electrified at one time.

The Baldwins were probably AS416s, but a few other types were mixed in as well. Then again, by the time of the EMDs the 416s were all that was left of the Baldwins I think.
The EMDs were GP18s and 38s
The electrification ended with passenger service.

Yeah, a bunch of those are still floating around. I think they're the last of the freight equipment, but a few of the locomotives can still be found-although only one still wears NS colours. There is a passenger car up in Canada and maybe one in Florida.
