Looking for these sunshades

Gang
I'm looking to detail up my U23b, and realized that it has a very un-Conrail part: sunshades!

Do any of the commercial parts have the weird tracks?

My apologies to George Elwood for lifting his photos.

Yes. The old brass Sunshades from Sunrise.

If you're nice, I know someone that has a pack in his magical tray of detail parts.... ;)

I don't know, being nice doesn't come naturally, but I'll try. :)

Don't do it Ed. Anything that you have to have tracks for just isn't worth it!

I don't think Conrail purposely removed the sunshades, they probably broke off or just plain old fell off from lack of attention through the years... LOL

I got some of these intending to use them on some of my locos and they have me extremely confused...

Quote
1. Drill the mounting holes with a #80 drill bit. (Note: We have provided you with a drill jig toward the side of the etching.)
2. Once your holes are drilled, insert the Sunshade so that the half-etched portion is up. (Note: we half-etched the shade so paint will adhere nicely).
3. Once that is in place, mount the track (long, thin piece) directly under the Sunshade and secure in place with glue.

That means the track sits under the sunshade. But in the photo that Ed posted and in ones of Lehigh Valley locos I'm doing, the shade sits in the track (which makes sense).

Does that mean what I really want to do is to:

1) glue the track in place
2) drill holes through the track and shell
3) glue sunshade

BTW, Craig did a good job in listening to modelers. After his first few items, he always puts a drill template in the etchings now. Having that template is handy when trying to make holes for things.

Thanks!    ;)

The track is mounted under the etching to give the appearance of the 'track' on the prototype.  This way, you can position the sunshade near the front or rear of the cab without too much effort (having mounting holes IN the track would prevent this horizontal movement).

Remember that in modeling, appearances are everything considering we can't always do things just like prototype...
