I've noticed the first release ATSF F7's haven't fetched $40 in eons. I have some I wanted to sell, but at those prices I decided to keep 'em...

Ok! I'am putting all my K-a Toes up for sale on E Bidding, or atleast all my Greater Northern's and especially the B-ooster Units. Nate Goodman (Nato)."Are my new Santa Fe "Pooper Chief" warbonnets worth more than my original non Kato coupler issues?

Am I the only one who actually likes Kato's F units better than Intermountain's? Yes, I know, Intermountain; the extra details, the availablility, etched metal grills, grab irons, blah blah blah. I'm not saying they're better, I'm just saying I like them better. Something about the way they "sit" or look, seems more realistic. Hard to explain, but I wonder if anyone else feels this way. Too bad I settled on modeling 1995. I would scoop up an armload of Kato F's at $40 bucks each.

I have both, and both are good (with imperfections). They both are a little tall, but the IM has bigger gap over the trucks. Aside from that I prefer the IMs. As a bonus the IMs came in a road name Kato has never done (WM). Since I try to limit my painting to my favorite road, chances are slim that I'd grab a Kato F7 to repaint to WM (the Kato F7s I have are to be painted N&W).

Pedro, I also can prefer in many cases the Kato F's over the IMs... in the case of the Santa Fe Warbonnets and freight units that have come out.   I agree with you - the Kato F's sit better over their trucks, the truck mount rear
couplers make close-coupling with short-shank Unimates a lot easier and closer....

It is individual, though.   I looked at the new SP Black Widow F3s from Kato, and think that the IM F7s in Black
Widow actually look better in terms of paint, detailing.... and the higher space above the
black trucks don't seem to look as bad here.

It's the overall look and image that I get that means I continue to prefer the Kato Santa Fe F's, but would have
gone with IM for the Black Widow F7s.

You're lucky, John, because you can compare Santa Fe and Southern Pacific units between the two manufacturers.  I prefer Intermountain because they've actually taken the time to produce paint schemes outside of that narrow view.  Plus, not only has IM produced my particular favorite, they're getting ready to release the second run of them within a couple years, as opposed to Kato, who only finds it necessary to release their models every couple decades.
The best detailing in the world means nothing if you can't get your mits on it.

Good point, wm3798!  You're right on - the number of different paint schemes avail on IM F's is nothing short of astounding.

I'm just glad they have done the FEC F5s yet.

I'd be in trouble...

I'd also be in trouble with a good PC F7 or two too.

B units between an EMD GP35, GP9 and a GE U25B.  that's classic.

I wish I could find a pair of phase I F3As so I can do the A&EC units.  Been looking for a long time, no luck at all.

ask WCD (WestCoastDon) he did cast some really nice shells from an early Kato phase I shell and also some nice frames so you could use a LL GP20 drive for the shells - yes, I'm still waiting on mine which I did order many many moons ago...  ;)

Bennett Cerf:  Why did the Penn Central run lashups of 8 units or more?
Kitty Carlisle:  So two of them would still be running when they got to Pittsburgh!
