The problem with them, even if there IS a real "Scalp Level", is that if the thing is ever talked about is that the first impression would be that it's one of those made up "cutesy" names, even if it isn't, and that first impression can be quite important.

I like big beaver! I'd go North from there I think 

I live in the "Mahoning Valley", maybe Mahoning Valley & Cherry Run Railway or Cherry Run & Mahoning Railway. Only passenger car would have it spelled out. Everything else would be M.V.&C.R.Ry or C.R.&M.Ry.
On the Erie branch from Niles, OH to Lisbon, OH there was a blast furnace at Leetonia, OH (Columbiana county) The furnace had its own RR called Leetonia & Cherry Valley, they even had narrow gauge that ran on top of their coke ovens:

The Erie siding was down in the pit under water now and the narrow gauge was on top.

My last Laurel Valley design included a coal branch called the Quemehoning Creek Railroad.  It was a steep climbing branch with a stub end, a small railroad museum with a turntable, and a tourist train!


Yea!  A place for my N scale train geeks to gather!

David the best part of that photo is not the Lake Erie & Eastern bridges in the background, it's the fact that right around the corner the train will cross the old Erie diamond.

Too bad they recently removed the bridge over the Mahoning River.

I think "Mahoning" will stay in the name. I forgot about the River till now.
