Need some semi-urgent photo help... Interchanges

I'm looking to start designing and building (very quickly, actually) a oNeTRAK module based on an interchange between a class 1 and a short line.

I need some help digging up some research photos before I start construction though, so I can have some better idea of what these LOOK like.

While it's going to be set in Central MD, pics from anywhere will work.

Somewhere in the giant stack of stuff upstairs is a couple of magazine articles about a small interchange, I think it was at Greycourt NY or Michigan....  You could try doing the google map thing.  It was a delightfully compact interchange, and I used it on one of the first layout I built.  This is the track plan to the best of my ever shrinking memory.



It works really well, there's a siding for the main line train to drop cars off, a run around for the main and for the short line, and a little fiddle yard so the shortline switcher can sort cars before heading out on the line.

Thats exactly the type of thing I was looking for Lee, but I need to go even smaller. I was thinking just two sidings.

The Erie Railroad crossed the Monon at Wilders, IN. The Erie ran Southeast-Northwest and the Monon North-South. There was a single connection from the Erie at the Southeast quadrant to the Monon at the North quadrant. There were what looked like telephone boxes on poles near the switches. The delivering railroad left the waybills for the interchange cars in the other road's box. Most of this was buried in foot deep weeds by the time it was the Chicago & Indiana and the L&N. Can't get simpler than that.

Some day I'll be building this junction. Although it's a bit problematic since I'm modelling the shortline and the interchange tracks are alongside the CPR main. So I'll have to run the ACR main behind it and around  somehow in order to have the i/c tracks along the front in a workable spot. Fortunately there's nothing north of the diamond for a while.

Check out the Palmer, MA CSX interchange. You can probably convincingly scale that things down...

Keymar!  You can go look at it this afternoon!  The PRR Frederick Secondary crosses the WM main there.  There was a long siding on the WM side, and a simple connecting track that went down hill to the PRR.

Maybe not as linear as you'd like, but immediately recongizable to the Bantrak crowd...

The interchange between CSX and Clinton Terminal is basically an old passing siding with a sign at one end that says "End of CSX Track" or some such.

If you want one at right angles, here's an overhead image of the northwest end of the KB&S in Kankakee, IL:

The KB&S comes in at the lower right, turns right/north, and drops cars on the Illinois Central's siding.

If you look closely, you can see where the NYC (now KB&S) trackage used to cross the IC, to reach now-defunct industries on the west side of town. The giveaway is the two parallel streets on the west side of the IC main, directly in line with the remaining KB&S tracks on the east side. The tracks used to run between them; now they're just separated by a grassy knoll median strip.
