This may be one of my easiest steam locomotives to date. Add a few small details and weather! I may change the tender to a clearview Vanderbilt, but... OK maybe not easy, but easier

With just a bit of bashing a decent a PRR C1 0-8-0 is a possibility.  I think the C1s were a bit bigger but this is as close to one we will ever get in N scale.  I think the Pennsy had 90 of them but the crews hated them.

Interesting that the Lehigh Valley isn't on that list. They had many 10's & 20's era built 0-8-0's on their line. Surprisingly not a 1 was of USRA design I guess.

What I learned was not all the USRA 0-8-0's were the same . Some had a slopped front edge to the cab , and some had front end throttles . So its more like a family of USRA 0-8-0's than clones , though if you were not aware of the nuances , they would look alike . Tenders are all over the map . You not only need to know the road , but the engine number to get that correct . I bet , just like many UP steam . the date will come into play , not only for the tender , but even the number . Unless you had a photo of an engine on the date that is of importance to you , you always take the risk of detailing a steamer incorrectly .

  Union Pacific actually had one 0-8-0 locomotive, of course it was converted frrom a 2-8-0 Connie by removing the pilot truck. Back in the early days of N (then Trebble -O) this gave me justification for purchasing a Lone Star 0-8-0 which came only in UP lettering, with the thought of trying to reverse engineer it back to a 2-8-0 or Mike ,but given the crude technology of the era,rubber band drive in the overly large tender and lack of detailing including no valve gear the project never happened.                   Nate Goodman (Nato). The N&W's came from C&O. The C&O ones were built in the late 1940s, seemingly right before they abandoned buying steam. They were based on the USRA design. N&W liked the improved version enough to build copies up to 1953.

And the FJ&G had one built by ALCO (B/N 65158) built 8/1923  and was eventually scrapped in 1947.  BTW purchase price was $37,376.61
