Yeah, I already sent my order in to Chulvis for four reefers.  8) Might consider more by November...

Oh look! Two new models! Maybe that'll shut Mr. Judice up for about a week...  ::)

I do have to ask, and hopefully someone more familiar with freightcars can fill me in on this, but how is the new Atlas Thrall 4750 that different from the Intermountain 4750? I'm sure lots of people will be happy to be able to get the car without the characteristic Intermountain price tag and sloppy assembly job, but I thought it was Atlas' policy to not produce a model already made by another manufacturer? If that is no longer the policy, when are we getting some damn C40-8Ws?!  ???

No one has done the Thrall 4750. Everyone else has done the PS version...

Bachmann has had a GP40 since the 1960s. Atlas had one in the late 1960s (Mehano) and again now has one (late 1990s China).

Looking at my 1980 Car builders Cyclopedia there are many differences between the PS & Thrall 4750's

The Thrall has 14 ribs, the Pullman Standard 18
The Thrall is a one piece flat roof walk; the PS has elevated sections at the end
The Thrall car is 57' 5" long (over strikers) while the PS is 57' 4" (not much in N  ;D)
There are also differences in the hatches, unloading doors & other equipment...

Red Caboose has made a 4750 CuFt hopper as mentioned earlier; it is a less accurate version of the PS car Intermountain has made (a byproduct of 20 year old tooling)

Precision Masters made a later version of the Thrall hopper than Atlas is making (it had a Horizontal rib along the top of the car) however it has a few to many ribs (18 V.S. 16) for some reason Red Caboose has not picked up this car.

I can only assume this month's issue of Atlas Modeler will have more info on the 4750...

While I have no inside knowledge, I'd be shocked if the "large GE's" were anything other than the new ES44DC and ES44AC.  These things are all over the place now and nobody has done them in N-scale.

My second guess would be the U30C, which Atlas has done in HO and was last done by KATO in N in 1991.

While I know a lot of people want Atlas to do a C40-8W (or even a C40-8), I think it's unlikely they'll tool a new model when another company already has one on the market that could reduce the sales potential.  I know the Bachmann one is inferior to anything Atlas might offer, but the general modeler doesn't.

Has anybody else had difficulty getting GP-38-2s from the last go round earlier this year (late winter/early spring) from Atlas? I placed an order with Tex'n Rails the Monday after the April Timonium, MD, GSMTS and have yet to receive them. I have called Tex several times since and they keep telling me they are backordered. But almost three whole months? Did Atlas really limit production runs for the first batch? Seems like a popular engine make to me. Am I being impatient?  >:(

I think production is much closer to orders these days - definitely the stocks are smaller than they used to be...

Re: C40's - there have been various hints that these will come next year - who knows maybe something will be said at the NMRA or N-scale Collector's conventions?

I ordered mine from Chuck and received them promptly.
