That's a pretty cool training car. I actually shot DuPont's set of TransCAER training cars leaving Enola a few weeks ago, I need to download and post those....along with about a few hundred other things...

Now THIS is a tank car! This was one of three in a northbound freight I shot the other day. Judging by the reporting marks, I'd say it was at least leased by Dupont.

You'll never see any more of 'em and you won't see those around all that much longer. The FRA banned the building of tank cars over 33,500 gallons and with span bolsters in the early 1970's and as those existing reach 40 years of age they'll no longer be interchangeable. And yes, duPont has quite a few. Seem to recall they were loaded in a plant located in Lake Charles, LA.

Well then, hope no one minds if I revel in the fact I shot a dinosaur of sorts :D

As it was, ths train I shot this one in was in south Georgia northbound from Waycross, so it was a way from Louisiana- but it's not to saw it wasn't going back eventually.

General Americn tankcar had Trinity Industies build an even bigger behemoth for LP service. It was leased to Citgo(Cities Service Oil and Gas). It rode on four sets of two axle 125 ton trucks. It proved to be impractical because most LP dealers heve marginal trackage to them, and Hulcher had little interest in handling 450,000 bombs.
