It kinda looks like the dirty puddle method...in that the evaporation of thinned paint randomly deposits paint particles.

Serious fit problems with the front end? hmm-I have the same model (only a 421 SD)
that's been sitting in a box half finished for almost 10 years-hope I don't have the
same problem when I ever get around to finishing it (probably another 10 years from
now)  ;D Looks great though!
