Harrisburg PA Train Show This Saturday (3/17)

This Saturday, March 17th, is the annual "Railroad Show and Collectors Market", sponsored by the Harrisburg Chapter, National Railway Historical Society.

It runs from 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. at the I. W. Abel Union Hall, 200 Gibson Street, Steelton, Pa. Admission $5; under 12 free.

My "Merchandise Service" will be there. It's not a huge show -- about 100 tables -- but it's local for me and it supports the chapter.

The Capital PenNScalers (http://www.pennscalers.org/) will have their NTRAK layout set up.

So if you are within a short drive and looking for entertainment, please stop out!

Here, just outside of Harrisburg, it is snowing like crazy. They had been calling for 6-12", but both WGAL-TV and Weather Channel just upped it to 12-18". I'll believe it when I see it! There's about 2" down now, and the roads are already impassable.

I think this show will likely be postponed or cancelled.

If they go through with it, I doubt I will even try to get there, even though it is only 15-18 miles away.

Jerry,
That's a shame about the show. We are having our own weather problems down here in Miami. The temp got down to 76 and it rained for 10 min :o. People are running all around wondering what to do. ;)

Keep warm

Yeah, the weather is bad here in Colorado too.  It's sunny, about 68, low humidity and a slight breeze just kicked up.  Brutal . . .

Wow, what a difference a few miles makes, it's just raining here.

I was going to be smug and say it's been sunny and warm here today, but then they've issued severe weather warnings for this area from next week..heavy snow expected, and with the high winds and flat land we'll have some big drifts.

I just got off the phone with the CRHS president, who called the show organizers, and it's still on.

You`ll never find a Philly cheese steak on a menu in Philadelphia. It`s called a cheesesteak and we all know where it`s from...

I, too, heard the show was still on last night. I suspect this was a mistake.

They have 100 tables. I had two of them. I know of two other vendors who didn't go. How many didn't go that I don't know of?

Now, attendance will be down because a lot of people are digging out and just aren't going to go. So the vendors that are there will have lower sales.

When people do show up for the show, they are expected to pay full price. But guess what, a decent percentage of the tables are empty. So would you still want to pay full price?

Last, but not least, this is being held at a private hall. It'll be interesting to hear how well dug out the facility was by 7 a.m. this morning when the vendors were to start showing up.

By the way, their own modular group (HO) told me there was "no way" they were going to drag their modules out in this weather if the show was held.

I wish them well. I support them. I maintain and host their web site. I personally feel that going ahead with the show was just a bad decision.

Finally got a vehicle out around noon.

There were spots where we had 18". Average was about a foot.
