Of course, if it's all rural mountainous backdrop there's no problem, but things have built up in the area over the past half century, haven't they? 8)

the trees would have grown also ..

Since this is a portable module, I'd invest in having a copy shop with a poster printer do the backdrop image so there aren't any ghastly seams...  They could also run it on a wider sheet that will take it all the way up to the next deck.

Tree Growth -- tree height will remain fairly constant unless an area is forested. Old trees die and new trees take their place. I doubt there is much difference in tree appearance over 53 years.

Backdrop / Portability -- This is only being built as a module to facilitate assembly... 7 turnouts on the bridge deck with switch machines underneath. It will be permanently placed into the layout. The goal is not to use it as a module for display here, there, and everywhere. With all the switch machines mounted on the underside, it would require quite a mounting to protect it... and it's already pretty heavy. The present backdrop was hashed together as a "proof of concept" and will be replaced this summer. I will invest more time in creating tight seams on the final product.

Did you see this .. http://204.156.4.220/memberpages2/page.asp?pid=445

No, I hadn't seen that site before. It appears to be Neal Schorr's, as is featured in MRP 2007.

While I took some liberties in using some existing, marketed scale castings that makes my bridge too long -- described in the A Board thread -- I also immediately noted that Neal's bridge didn't look quite right. His piers appear too wide.

I intend this as an observation, not a criticism. Neal does some fine work.

His procedure for field measurements would also surely attract the attention of the local constabulary in today's edgy climate...
