How would you pursue your hobby if you had unlimited funds? Well Bill Willock of Syosset, NY, heir to the J&L Steel fortune, did in the 1950's, and the following was the result:

Little No. 16 was built to 2 ft. gauge by H. K. Porter for a mine in Idaho.

C&O coal docks near Toledo.  6/21/80  Always interesting stuff moving around the docks.  Easy access from public roads too.  I spent a lot of time shooting trains during my first few months in town.  Then my girlfriend became my wife and we bought a house and . . . well, you can guess the rest of the story.

Yup. Not exacatly the best looking loco in the world, but three at the head of a heavy steel train can still stir the senses.

True, but a great pair of stairways at the rear!

We have a steel mill about 5 km down the road - one of these days I will get down there and photograph some of the coil or coal trains

Can I get you to photograph any odd looking cars you see other than bottle cars and ladle cars?  I have some pictures of bottle cars thanks to Chris, and I have all the parts done for my fleet of ladle cars.  But I know there are other odd bits of equipment out there, and I want to model them.
Thanks much,

Terrific photo Wes.  Do you have a photo of one of those slab cars?  They look to be purpose built for the service.
Stirs the senses indeed.  I was out yesterday and caught a NS local coming upgrade with a load of stone.  (No camera  :()  Two GP's, probably 50's, really barking it up as they leaned into the curve at about 15mph.  Makes you stop and think "Yeah, this is why I like trains!"  :)
