got this Red Caboose ART reefer

I was excited about these Red Caboose ART (N&W/MP) reefers when they were announced some time ago - until I saw a decent pic ...

The pic on Red Caboose's site does not convey the "Safety Orange" or "Flourescent Orange" nature of this car:

A more accurate rendering can be seen here:

http://www.nscalesupply.com/RED/RED-RN-18817.html

However, inspired by the Railwire weathering etc forum, I picked one up on the cheap from Ebay and I'm gonna try my hand at using some of the methods I've seen here to try to subdue the neon color. :o

I will take a pic before and after and then post them on here. I'm a busy sod, so don't hold your breath, but I'll give it a wack by January.

I still have some unassembled MDC reefers, once you put the trucks on they will no longer fit the box... :-X

I'm gonna try the airbrush fade technique Rich Yourstone outlined in the NSR article and here:

http://crcyc.railfan.net/model/yourstone/pcbox.html

to try and tone down the color. this should be interesting as I'll have to buy an airbrush (I wonder if MBK will have an after Christmas sale!)

Could the colour difference have anything to do with the fact that they are two different cars?

Don't forget to paint the roof white...

Yikes! You mean similar to this?

Here's weaver's O model (a closer match to the Red Caboose proto?):

There's actually a picture of one of these in the Color Guide... well, then end of one anyway.  Lookcarefully at the middle photo on pg 124.

Damn. Good eye! I never noticed that. 8)
