Well, the clear caulk looks like it won't work.  It dries to a cloudy-blue color.  Oh, well...

With the caulk you should be able to pull it up once cured.

On Jurg's Z scale water he used small dabs of it to make the water look cloudy.

You can pour Woodland Scenics Realistic Water in two 1/8" coats.  No brain cells will be harmed in the process.
