Hey that's pretty cool. I've got a pic of my grandfather and his crew on the pilot of an N&W M-Class - I should scan it up.  ;D

Lee (wm3798), the reason for the Rio Grande style scheme on the W&LE is simple. Larry Parsons, the CEO, worked his way up the ranks to become General Manager of the D&RGW and was a victim of the SP-D&RGW merger. He went to the KCS as VP-Operations first, then started the W&LE. A little nostalgia on his part, I guess.

Found some online photo's to back up those I posted earlier:
The Center St. bridge crossing:

The concrete wall was once used to hold raw materials for a blast furnace. Believe it or not, this is the same concrete wall in 1979:

Another view of the Ohio Central "trash train" going under Center St. bridge:

and here is a view taken from the bridge looking toward the front locomotive in 1979:

This is the former Lake Erie & Eastern line, from the hoppers back is gone now. The tracks off to the left are still there though, they are the old Youngstown & Southern. The large building in the background is now owned by the Ohio Central, their dispatch office is now where you see a concrete foundation in the corner. The locomotive shops are to the right:

The whole complex is called Phoenix Logistics:

Anyways, just stretching the Thursday Proto dollar ;)
