Thursday Proto Photo 5/18/06

Well it's after midnight, so it's Thursday now  :P

On my way home from work yesterday I saw a string of remote control switchers sitting on the in/out bound tracks at WCI steel in Warren Ohio. Usually they are up inside the plant around the rolling mill and blast furnace so I knew something was up. Got closer and they had the number crossed out and LTEX written out. So they are off to Larry's Truck Electric.

Now back in 1937 there was a strike at this mill  here in the same exact spot as the switchers are a string of hoppers that the strikers had opened the doors on. That is the PRR line in the foreground:

Since I was there I turned around and took a photo of the crossing at Pine St. On the left is CSX (exB&O), off to the right is the Ohio Central with NS trackage rights (ex PRR)

The reason for the photo is to compare it with 1937:

Same deal B&O left PRR right.

Another image at the same crossing:

Check out the zoom feature of these photos, they are great! You can see why I hardly ever take the camera out "railfaning" it is no longer 1937.

And up the road was yet another re-conditioned hot metal bottle car:

Went to the Southeastern Railway Museum Saturday and photographed some critter-bashing fodder:

Someone needs to attempt a Heisler.

Nothing new for me this week but since I will be spending the next 10 days in Ohio, I'm sure I will have a lot when I return.  ;D

120-year-old ex-B&O trestle ablaze on the Buffalo & Pittsburgh's Petrolia Line (about ten miles from here)

also 2 video clips from a friend in the BPRR Yahoo group:

http://www.westernallegheny.com/forumpics/trestlefire/0510061333.3g2

and the story, which is that it has now been determined to be arson:

The news story has better video. And just when you didn't think there were enough stupid people around...."Investigators believe an accelerant was used to soak the bridge hours before the blaze and that someone lit it on fire when the train passed."

Forgot to add a couple pics of DGNO's latest loco:

I just LOVE shortlines. Run what ya want when ya want to. Makes me proud to see my little DGNO doing so well  ;D.
