Odd behavior - Bachmann N-Scale SC-44 Charger

I have had my Bachmann N-Scale SC-44 Charger for a while, but today it started to exhibit some odd behavior. For example:

When I press F7, it would normally dim the headlight. Today, it makes the headlight flash rapidly.

The red Emergency strobe light is blinking all the time. It only did that before when the crew alerter was ignored and the train went into an emergency stop. I have pressed F10 which is supposed to control the emergency strobe, but nothing changes.

I have tried pressing the buttons both in "Light Mode" and "Function Page 1" modes.

Any ideas what is causing this and how to fix it?

I guess one option is to do a factory reset on the decoder, but then I would need to go back to adjust all the sounds and to remap some of the functions to other buttons.

Yours has a crew alerter that, if ignored, puts it in an emergency stop? Mine only does the emergency stop thing if I push the stop button.

Regarding your issue, it does indeed sound like it is possibly still in one of the modes to change settings.

Yes, it has a crew alerter that starts beeping when no throttle controls have been touched within a certain amount of time. It throws the train into an emergency stop and activates the red strobe on the cab. The beeps get louder and louder the closer it gets to where the stop is initiated.  F17 is used to turn it on or off. It is disabled by default.

I did a reset on the decoder and that allowed the headlight to dim (instead of flashing). Unfortunately, the red strobe light is still lit all the time. So, a little bit of progress!

LOL!  Seems to me like they making the models too closely simulate the real loco's behavior in the cab.  How far do we take this? Seems like cute gimmick to me. At least it seems like that feature can be turned off.
