Interesting. I'll be glad when it's back in N&W colors.

N&W 1776 is looking good!  8)

At least it's not armor yellow and harbor mist gray.

I don't dislike it. Considering how gaudy they could have gone, this seems relatively tasteful. I'm iffy about using a historic piece this way, but given that NS treats 611 as an "ambassador" rather than just an operating museum piece, it makes sense in that context.

Since it hasn't been brought up here yet, I'll bring up the fact that this repaint has some historical precedent, in a rendering from the original AFT proposals, which would've also involved de-streamlining her, but had her in the same paint scheme as she now wears. Pretty cool stuff.

This is correct.
"This afternoon, Virginia Museum of Transportation unveiled a new look for the legendary Norfolk & Western Class J No. 611. Inspired by original concept art created for the American Freedom Train during the nation’s 1976 Bicentennial celebration, the red, white, and blue design honors America’s 250th Anniversary and the role railroads played in building it."

Joint statement on FB by VMT, Virginia Scenic Railway, and others.
