The soaking of tissue paper with Micro-Sol was posted on YouTube by Athearn 10+ years ago.
Still works excellent and my preferred method to remove the ink.

Few years back, pretty much all the lettering on models was done using Tampo printing and old-school solvent-based inks.  Nowadays you find more and   more lettering and other graphics applied using ink-jet printing with UV-cured inks. The removal methods which worked on Tampo inks might not work the same with the modern inks, since they harden by light exposure rather than solvent evaporation.

Solvaset and a clean eraser. Let the Solvaset work for a little while then keep the numbers wet with Solvaset while you gently rub with the eraser.

I erased the names on several Rivarossi 10-6 sleepers using a pencil eraser chucked into my Dremel, with the speed cranked waaaay down.

But that was some 30 years ago, and I'm sure that paint technology has changed since then.

I soak with Micro sol on a small tab, then take a fresh #2 BLACK Dixon Ticonderoga pencil and use the eraser side and erase away the numbers making sure some micro sol is used for lubricant. repeat as necessary. no touch up paint needed.
