N-Scale Geared Break Bulk Carrier Ship Models

Two months of work has yielded a family of modular N-Scale Geared Break Bulk Carrier Ships, a wind turbine blade, and a pair of blade transportation racks for road and sea movements.

A new stern, superstructure, stack, anchor, foremast base, Rams Horn crane hook, doors, mushroom and rectangular louvered vents, and hold comings and hatch covers (i.e., they have simulated hinging that facilitates positioning the hatches in an open position) were designed for these models.

With three different lengths, the specifications for the new vessels are as follows:

648 Foot Long Geared Break Bulk Carrier

Height: 6.17 inches (197.64 mm) – 103.75 ± Scale Feet

Length: 48.57 inches (1233.76 mm) – 647.62 ± Scale Feet

Width/Beam: 7.45 inches (189.31 mm) – 99.3 ± Scale Feet

Deck Crane Arrangements: Three

1. One centered over bow holds, two side mounted over middle hull modules, and one centered over aft holds (AAL and Rickmers deck configuration).

2. Four centered over ship’s holds.

3. Four sided mounted.

Container Capacity: 324 40’ Containers Over Ship Holds

Wind Turbine Blade Capacity: Twenty Four Over Ship Holds

538 Foot Long Geared Break Bulk Carrier

Height: 6.17 inches (197.64 mm) – 103.75 ± Scale Feet

Length: 40.31 inches (1023.93 mm) – 537.62 ± Scale Feet

Width/Beam: 7.45 inches (189.31 mm) – 99.3 ± Scale Feet

Deck Crane Arrangements: Two

1. Three centered over ship’s holds.

2. Three sided mounted.

Container Capacity: 252 40’ Containers Over Ship Holds

Wind Turbine Blade Capacity: Sixteen Over Ship Holds

427 Foot Long Geared Break Bulk Carrier

Height: 6.17 inches (197.64 mm) – 103.75 ± Scale Feet

Length: 32.06 inches (814.23 mm) – 427.26 ± Scale Feet

Width/Beam: 7.45 inches (189.31 mm) – 99.3 ± Scale Feet

Deck Crane Arrangements: Two

1. Two centered over ship’s holds.

2. Two sided mounted.

Container Capacity: 180 40’ Containers Over Ship Holds

Wind Turbine Blade Capacity: Eight Over Ship Holds

After I have updated the shorter, previously designed container ship stern and bridge modules, merging them with the break bulk carrier bow and mid modules will a yield a second family of vessels with a bit less length.

Proof of concept printing is presently underway.

To answer several inquiries, the new break bulk carrier ship superstructure has a removable roof with interior bridge details.

Have even added another windowless steel door to the bridge’s back wall.

Very cool.  Could it be modified for sea cans?

Although I am planning on redoing my previously designed container ship model, no modifications are required on the break bulk carriers.

Stacked four high and nine across each hold, the number of containers supported by the three ship lengths is listed under the specifications for each model.

A splendid modeling scenario, with a break bulk carrier ship in the background, I came across a dockside photo of two reach stackers that are being used to move a wind turbine column.
