N scale resin vehicle kits from Rasputen

Molotow still my preferred choice, but buy a mix of refill bottles an 1mm pens. Pens for headlights and bumpers, refill bottles and paintbrush for trim, grills and windows..

I didn't realize they did anything other than the pens! I've been using a sharpened toothpick to soak up bits of the juice and apply them for tiny applications. Refill bottles sound great.

They are readily available over here (Switzerland) for about 25 USD. One bottle will do all your cars and they avoid the annoyance of your pens drying out/failing after several uses. I've also started using them, thinned with IPA, for my ATSF car sides to get that shine.

Problem with Molotow(and any other similar "chrome" paints is that they have fragile sinish which can easily be dulled just be handing them.  Clear coating them is not an option because clear coat dulls the finish.  These finishes are ok for use on things which will nto be handled much (like grilles and bumpers on N scale vehicles which will just sit on the layout).

Not as well as the standard vacuum metalized kit parts.

Tamiya makes an acrylic "Chrome Silver" (X-11), but I was not impressed with it, especially compared to the chrome markers.  The photo below is a Ford Crown Victoria in which I used the Tamiya Chrome Silver for the headlights and grille.   

The "hubcaps" are "painted" with a silver Sharpie.  So, the Tamiya paint may be a little more reflective than the Sharpie.

In order to cast those giant side mirrors in place, I had to add some webs to the master which then get trimmed off after the casting is made.  Heaps of fun.

I like the Molotov for chrome plating. I learned from online videos of larger scale resin car kits building that the refill version can be airbrushed. I did such on the lower rear panel of the Silverside bus and it came out amazingly well.  This photo does not do it justice.
