Around the layout today. #1150 had some ozone issues, being an older fellow. AI showed how to clean it, and I reduced the smell to almost nothing.

The ozone smell from a Life-Like N scale GP-20 is caused by electrical arcing in the motor, which converts oxygen (O2) into ozone (O3). This is a common and normal characteristic of older, brush-type model train motors, especially after prolonged storage.

How to reduce the smell. While you can't eliminate the smell entirely in these older motors, you can reduce it by performing some basic maintenance.
Disassemble and inspect: Carefully remove the locomotive's body to expose the motor. Older Life-Like N scale pancake motors are often located in the center of the chassis.
Clean the motor: Using plastic-safe electronic contact cleaner, spray the motor's commutator (the copper contact ring) and brushes.Run the motor slowly to help the cleaner remove dirt and residue.

Clean the wheels and pickups: Wipe the wheels and electrical pickups with the contact cleaner to ensure a clean connection with the track, which can also reduce sparking.
Re-lubricate sparingly: Apply a single drop of light oil to the motor bearings and sparingly lubricate the gear train. Avoid over-lubricating, as excess oil can collect dust and cause more problems.
Run the motor: After cleaning, run the locomotive for a break-in period. The arcing will decrease and the smell should lessen as the brushes re-seat themselves on the clean commutator.
