Any input about this venture?  I have a vague recollection of a vendor with this name from the past but I thought they went under.

I don’t really understand why you would offer something for sale and not post pics. Print one up and take a photo, film is cheap.   The website doesn’t have any contact information that I can find.

We discussed aspects of them here fairly recently:

I have dealt with OOTB Outoftheboxmodels, they are a canadian outfit and I have paid for and received an ATSF shell stl and decals. After you pay , maybe a day or two you get a link to download the stl, I also got decals and they took a while to arrive but I do live near the bottom of the world! I found them to be good to deal with and am planning more purchases in the future

I too am interested in a few of their models but want to see some printed samples. I went to contact the owner but there is seemingly no way to do that on their website.

@kiwi_al  do you have their email address?

I recently received this “Pendulum” coach. Took almost 3 months to get the first print which was useless. It came printed in clear resin which made it hard to see all the defects. I primed it and sent him a photo. It was reprinted in a timely fashion this time in gray resin. It’s acceptable now. My other complaint are about the trucks. There were no dimples in the side frame for the axle ends to fit into so they can roll. Not happy about that. Buying the print file may be a better option but won’t fix the trucks so buyer beware.

What would bother me most (judging from the photo) is the seemingly out of proportion rails above and below the windows.  From the photos in the ATSF Coach and Chair Car book, at least in the ATSF version, those were quite thin.  In the photo above, they look like 4x4s.  Am I seeing some trick of the light that is changing the visual proportion?  Or some variation for a particular railroad?

They are oversized to be sure but probably not as bad as it looks in the photo. I will sand it down some although the member will still be too wide. Nothing I can do with that, however I'm willing to overlook that detail until something better comes along since it is such a unique car.

Sorry to deviate from the topic...

@skytop35 @thomasjmdavis ,

WRT the Pendulum car, please check in with the new proprietor of ATSF N Scale Models.  I believe Dirk was developing a full set of these.  He and I spoke a few years ago and he asked me to design the trucks (which I did) for the Pendulum project he was working on.  I do not know if it ever came to fruition, much less for sale, but @Simon D. may have some info.

And here's one someone designed a few years ago. I haven't printed mine out yet, so I can't say how accurate it is.

To clarify, I bought the assets from Dirk's business just before he passed, not the actual business, and am still going through the files I got on a memory stick - needs a lot of organising.  I'll check about the pendulum car trucks and get back to you.  I did download the Thingiverse file a few years ago (I think it was that one) and wasn't massively impressed - the belt lines on the sides seemed to be much too prominent.  There is a set of sides from Union Station which may be available.

A fascinating prototype.

Since I didn't have any projects lined up for my Ender 3, and I've never done a passenger car, I downloaded the Thingiverse file and put it on the machine.  The stl was a few millimeters long- would have made a car that was 85 feet over the body, as opposed to 85' coupled.  I went for a body dimension of 82', turned out to be 81.9 scale feet when it printed.  Reviewing the drawings, it should be 82' 8", with a coupled length of 85' (the coupler/diaphragm over-hang being 14" according to the drawings in McCall's Coach and Chair Car book).  There may be differences between cars of various roads.  Given that the file is named 'Silver Pendulum', I am assuming this is modeled on the CB&Q car.

The print has the same oversized battens above and below the windows.  However, I will agree with Skytop's comment that they are not as prominent visually as they appear in the photos.  It may be that the thingiverse stl and the ootb are the same model- the designer in thingiverse comments mentions he designed it for someone else years ago.  Whether that means for ootb, or that he IS the designer for ootb and designed it on request, I don't know.

Photo below... please remember, my first try at a passenger car shell, it is right off the printer- has not been sanded, still has some bits of support artifact, hasn't been sanded or touched up with a file (windows especially.   And, it's an Ender-3, not one of your fancy printers.  But, as proof of concept, I think it went pretty well--

The divets below the windows are the printer, not the stl.  Likewise the roofedge being deeper in the center that at the ends- I think I need to add a few supports to the upper edge of the inner wall.  Again things that may appear more prominent in the photo than in real life.  And in any case, I think both could be improved with slicer settings.  Only major issue was that the short skirt under the door on the opposite side did not print correctly- I think movement of the printhead caught a bit of gunk on top as it was printing and knocked it aside.

Apologies for delayed response. I’ve been all through Dirk’s many files and can find nothing on the pendulum car.  The trucks are very distinctive, not sure if there is anything which could stand in for them.

I started my own thread rather than completely crash this one...I'm working on the pendulum car trucks (and the entire car as well).

@Simon D. , I have the 3D of the trucks for the Pendulum cars that Dirk contracted me to design for him.  I can send you a .stp file and .stl file for your newly acquired biz.

If @k27463 wants the 3D for his set, he can request them from you.

Here is what I have designed, directly atop images of a brass model image:
