Rapido Dash8-40CM - What a joy!

I had not had a chance to run anything in a few months. However, today I pulled out a Rapido Dash8-40CM (BC Rail) from the first run and equiped with factory sound.

What an absolute joy. The engine is well-decorated, the lighting is nice (no bleed around the number boards) and the ditch and rock lights add a bit of pizzazz.

The absolute best part, though, was the sound. The speaker is well enclosed and the horn is vibrant and full as are the various prime mover and other sounds.

Today reminded me of the first time I heard a new HO Bowser C430 with factory Loksound with a horn and sound that was NOT tinny like everything else I had heard up until that point.

So, a nice day in N land.

One of Rapido’s repair tech’s has become a personal friend … he has mentioned several times that he thinks the Dash 8 is probably the best N scale locomotive that they have made.

Well, he's certainly entitled to his opinion (as misinformed as it might be). But everyone knows that nothing tops Rapido's TurboTrain  :D

I've got a Rohr Turbo Train and I like it...
It turns out you can get black confetti in the shape of d'cks...

Haha!

I have a TurboTrain and really like it.

I liked it so much that I bought the Rohr Turboliner with no modeling need for it. I am quite pleased that I did even though it was expensive.

But, yes, though Dash 8-40CMs are really nice!

I wish they could have figured out the truck pickup strip issue on the FL9's. they are fun as well after you add ESU v5 and a massive speaker

For one, it's remarkable they did them in N scale as they're a fairly limited appeal prototype. I have a few from both runs, and admit that the traction tires on the first run was a surprise, however their pulling ability is impressive. Most I've hung on a single unit is 70 cars on relatively flat track (12'x 4' loop, it was basically tied onto it's own tail), and although there was a little slipping, it was never at the point of struggling.

The second run are less impressive pullers, but a two unit set including a unit from each run is a perfect pair... will pretty much pull whatever you put behind them.

I don't prefer sound, so have no opinion in that regard.

The diesel starting sound is quite something , also the doppler effect of the horn is just incredible !!!!!
Thanks ,
