The general word on FB is that the people in charge didn't use money for upkeep. The safety inspector came by and shut them down.
Ken HouserNot at all. Their BOD is a bunch of know-nothings who have pissed away the monies the Railroad's former long time director left them in the coffers. They pushed their most recent, and very competent CMO, pushed out previous folks, both paid and volunteer due to biased reasons. They routinely canceled trains last year simply if pre-sales of tickets didnt live up to expectations. Their ridership for the year, through November of 2024, was barely 18,000 people. The BOD has also strained any and all relationships established over the decades with the State and various local Governement agencies that USED to be on the Railroad's side. It's a sad situation for an operation and many, incluing myself and my family, who gave decades to the railroad are beyond pissed.5hReplyShareEditedRich SeymoarKen Houser Oh no, you're gonna get reported for speaking the truth! lol Some peoples kids....5hReplyShareJoe SmithKen Houser if you think he was competent, I'd hate to see your definition of incompetent....5hReplyShareTommy TomsonJoe Smith look at the mess he stepped in to and then ask yourself that question.4hReplyShareKen HouserTommy Tomson exactly4hReplyShareJoe SmithTommy Tomsonyou should hire him then. Nobody is questioning the mess that was there previously.4hReplyShareEditedSteve LeathermanTommy Tomson well said, thank you2hReplyShareThe comment Jim Lipnitz is replying to has been deleted.Jim LipnitzAuthorDiana ok - so then what's the real story going on here? Can you share?5hReplyShareThe comment Rob Gardner is replying to has been deleted.Rob GardnerDiana Goble North I doubt any of us know what a Glow up is. Please explain?4hReplyShareThe comment Don Roberts is replying to has been deleted.Don RobertsDiana Goble North You need to prove this, because there's so much speculation about the FRA coming in and turning the place upside down4hReplyShareJackson SharpeKen HouserKen Houser, there is so much truth here. Too bad they’d rather have it this way. I hope the last mechanic realizes the bullet he dodged by getting the hell out of there.3hReplyShareAllen WestKen Houser This comment is true! The board has made poor decisions for years, especially surrounding the recent CMO feud. A lot of volunteers have been upset with their decision making and would like to see changes, but there are no elections at Historic Red Clay Valley, INC. They work silently in the background, and a significant majority are not, and never have been, involved in day-to-day operations. The frustrations seem to grow every 4 or 5 years and then there is a mass exodus of volunteers. Go to Woodstown Central and you'll see the same faces you saw at the W&W a year ago. The railroad truly does need a "glow-up" with a new board!3hReplyShareEditedSou RailmanKen Houser So another case of upper management ruining the fun for everyone else?3hReplyShareBob HarbisonAdminOK everyone take a deep breath and calm down. Let's wait and see what develops. I'm sure we'll know the story soon enough. (or most of it, there's always some behind the scenes stuff).2hReplyShareDiana Goble NorthBob Harbison I left this group because of all the unkind posts. The WWRR has a right to take a pause and inspect/repair historical equipment. It’s a responsible action. Thank you for your post and your kindness. We are not going anywhere but forward! Stay tuned. 💙💛2hReplyShareJackson SharpeDiana Goble North, what changed since last year when the previous mechanic was jumping up and down pointing out safety issues? What about the things he reported to the board that were disregarded? Obviously something happened.1hReplyShareEditedDiana Goble NorthJackson Sharpe wait?? Josh??1hReplyShareJackson SharpeDiana Goble North, met him a couple times but seem he just stopped posting stuff. This is stuff said that been circulating online for months tho.1hReplyShareEditedDiana Goble NorthJackson Sharpe I was told you are Josh. Apologies1hReplyShareEditedAllen WestBob Harbison The strong wording from people on here is a direct result from actions of the board and other individuals of power at the railroad. When people put countless hours of volunteer time to improve things and that is met with hostility, people will tend to be "unkind."1hReplyShareEditedKevin MadoreThat's extremely sad.5hReplyShareJackson SharpeKevin Madore, they have done it to themselves.3hReplyShareDiana Goble NorthJackson Sharpe wait? Is this Josh??1hReplyShareJohn LeoferI heard a safety inspector came out and shut the railroad down.4hReplyShareAndy WrobelDang, I was actually planning on going here5hReplyShareDon RobertsWell look at that, Diane Goble North blocked me. I guess she didn't like the truth coming out? Hiding something? Something really smells rotten here3hReplyShareChris HanbyTime for new management2hReplyShareDon RobertsIf memory serves me right, I believe they had a lot of large doners to the organization. I wonder what they are trying to hide?4hReplyShareSean BowenWhat the heck?4hReplyShareJackson SharpeNah not at all, if you followed the story and paid attention the CMO is a pencil whipper. been known for years. Key terms of worn out engines are “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.” Seems last year they were doing ok but some body else will probably get blamed for it. What ever happened to the ALCO deal?3hReplyShareEditedBob HarbisonAdminI don't follow the operation at all, but they've been around a very long time and always seemed first class. No idea what is going on.5hReplyShareKevin MadoreBob Harbison They have the only 4-4-0 that still operates with any regularity. It's been slowly undergoing a 1,472 SDI and a lot of us were looking forward to its return. They also have one of the prettier trainsets in the tourist industry.2hReplyShareEditedTommy TomsonKevin Madore it no longer operates51mReplyShareNate HeffnerKevin Madore also far from the only regular operating 4-4-0, considering it has not run in years. PRR 331/ leviathan runs regularly about 50 days or more a year and DL&N 7 at greenfield village is in regular service.42mReplyShareKevin MadoreTommy Tomson It hasn't been in operation for a number of years because its Form 4 had expired, but at least until recently, the plan had been to return it to service. Like a number of other tourist railroads that own a pair of steam locomotives, the Wilmington & Western has typically run one for 15 years, while their crew works through the process of getting the boiler inspection done on the other.39mReplyShareEditedKevin MadoreNate Heffner Correct. I was referring to original locos from the steam era. There are a number of replicas. The Detroit & Lima Northern #7 is original. It was restored a few years back, but was then out of service for a while. There are others, but they operate only rarely.29mReplyShareDave CruikshankSo sorry to hear this. My grandson and I love riding and capturing trains on video & photographs. He wanted to go somewhere he hasn’t been and they were on my short list. I road it with my wife and his mom back in the early 90’s when we lived in Kennett Sq. I hope they can straighten this out.3hReplyShareDiana Goble NorthDave Cruikshank come see us this fall!! No worries2hReplyShareDave CruikshankDiana Goble North Will you have steam running at any time then?2hReplyShareDiana Goble NorthDave Cruikshank we have some steam loving good people, so say a pray for 98. She needs it.1hReplyShareEditedOtto VondrakDiana Goble North do you represent the railroad? We've been trying to get comments for our news story. Please email me otto@RailFan.com1hReplyShareDiana Goble NorthOtto Vondrak I am! I will get the BOD President to email you. I’m so sorry. Thanks for letting me know.1hReplyShareTommy TomsonDave Cruikshank try woodstown central. About 30 mins away in New Jersey.47mReplyShareDiana Goble NorthThank you to all the gentleman posting! IYKYK! 💙 🚂 💛48mReplyShareGeorge SlaterWhat the hell happened?4hReplyShareAllen WestIf you want any evidence of the board being corrupt check out their website. Diane Goble North's (who is a board director) husband is an officer, who is a superintendent for the company that the President owns. Does that not raise an eyebrow? No wonder she blocked everyone on here. https://www.wwrr.com/about/hrcv/board.aspx3hReplyShareEdited
