Does that light board have more than 2 LEDs on it (ditch lights maybe)? I'm wondering because it seems to have quite a few ancillary components for just 2 LEDs.

Honestly cannot recall, but there are at these three 'light tubes' going forward from it, two of which are for the ditchlights.

Thanks. That makes sense then.

Front has four LED's. Hard to see in pics but it's one above and three below. Rear is single LED mounted on top of board (no pic).

1) The front light array.

Impressive lighting package.  That also explains the LED arrangement on the ESU Sound decoder designed for drop-in fit.

The height difference is closer to five inches, it's quite noticeable on the prototype when two are coupled together. I can't support that with any documentation of course, but it's supported by CN's own diesel data book from the 1970's (I have digital copies but my desktop is packed away, cannot access atm). All were to be GP40-2L's, however a collision before the order for 9633-9667 was placed saw a frame buckle and bend in such a way that the crew was trapped in the cab. As a result the final CN order for 35 units were ordered with a standard frame like the GO Transit units.

Hi Lock, I found my old detail notes and sketches and the underframes on the L's are 21 inches.

The second and fifth photos on the page linked below show the height difference between the GP40-2L and the GP40-2W. You can see it in the walkways and the rear handrail heights. It's only a few inches.

The photo of the 9493 shows it well.
