Storage mail car #1714.

One trick to make the too-thick window mullions/sashes/etc on any model of car or building is to paint the top and bottom of each sash black, leaving just the facing side with the desired color. Especially on something with a dark interior, the black paint makes the side thickness disappear and the painted part prototypically thin. You can even "thin down" the window frame by covering part of it with black paint.

Hi Ryan, this is a wood and cast metal kit made by Quality Craft Models circa 1975. The body is wood and the door frames and end ladders are cast metal. The door release mechanisms are made of wire, cut and bent to shape.

This was a state-of-the-art craftsman kit in the 1970s, basically a scaled-down version of what HO and O had been building for years.

Painted and waiting for decals

Wow, that brings back memories! I had one of those 50 years ago, don't recall if it ever got paint before selling it off. I ended up picking up some Red Caboose All Door shells (3) off of ebay and they are primed and awaiting paint and decals
