Swab Wagon Mack CF Rescue

I been picking up a few long dormant projects to see if they are any easier to build today than they were a few years ago.

This is a rough-out of a Swab Wagon partial walk in heavy rescue on a Mack CF body.

These were made in the late 60's though the mid 70's. Swab specialized in rescue bodies and still builds them in PA today, though their main products are for animal control.

The body is heavily rebuilt and cast from the Kinder Egg trucks I've written about before. The cab and wheels are hydro-shrunk and based off the AHM HO scale fire trucks. The chassis is an Athearn Ford C cab.

Lots of work to go. The can needs to be mounted correctly and a bumper added. Additional paint, decals  and details will follow.

I think I got the size about right. Here it is posed next to an Athearn C pumper and a C rescue based on the same body.

That's a cool project! The cab looks really good.  It will really come to life with all the chrome bits painted.

 I think it is a optical illusion but to me it seems like there is tiny downward bow between the cab and the body. Like if the model had a frame, the frame sagged a bit.

The body and the can are not yet attached to the frame. It's just a rough out. I'm trying to figure out how to attach the cab. I may just attach it to the body which has a mounting point for the chassis.

Chrome is going to be a headache. At least i have a few days for the pain to dry before trying to mask all that off.

Maybe instead of painting, use Bare Metal Foil?  I use it one larger automotive models, and I have done H0 size car too.  If you decide to paint, I would probably use Parafilm-M for masking instead of masking tape. The MACK letters could probably be picked out with a toothpick and chrome paint, or a very fine tipped silver marker.

I have BMF and Parafilm-M - I could mail you some of you don't have  them.

Should you decide to surplus any of these, I know a southern MRR that would benefit from adding them to the local fire service.

Agreed.  I've been using them for quite some time.
These two vehicles have the chrome done with one.

Yes, those work well.
