Micro-Trains heavyweight car coupler box mounting pins
« on: July 06, 2022, 08:51:32 PM »

I have a bunch of Micro-Trains heavyweight undecorated car kits.  I can't for the life of me figure out how to safely drive in the little pins that hold the coupler boxes to the car ends.  Any suggestions?

I'm tempted to replace with screws...

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that.

I use my thumb or press down with the flat side of small screwdriver. Doesn’t take much pressure.

Dump the pins -- tap and use a 00-90 screw.  They don't fall out!!

There really is not need to tap.  The shell plastic is so pliable they will just drive right in and their screws are really strong.

The new slotted-head steel screws MT uses have a very shallow slot.  Screwdriver slips out really easily (I just worked with one of those screws yesterday).  Tapping makes it easier on your fingers.
