The owner's manual shows screw terminals for the track connections, but it is strange that these are not visible in the image provided.

A flowchart of "use what device, why and when" and interface requirements, power, boosters, etc., I think would be quite helpful.

I find all of these components to be quite confusing, even though I understand the basics.

That makes sense. I was already wondering if John's recent Digitrax threads would be a better fit for the DCC section (but since he is "the boss", I didn't want to move them).

Careful reading and re-reading of the instructions looks like there are mechanical relays under the cover. Interesting that it will work with a 12VDC power supply. Get some use out of those old PS12's just laying around.

Why are you surprised?  Digitrax was always "old school".  I was pleasantly surprised when they came out with the new throttles using color LCD screens and soft buttons, but if you look under the hood, you will probably find



Mechanical relays, vacuum tubes and selenium rectifiers.   

In case someone take offense, this is a joke.  I was quite impressed with the new Digitrax throttles, but they  still seem to have a hard time embracing solid-state breakers and reversers.
