I have to admit that I am really disappointed with the Athearn SAL caboose that I just purchased a few weeks ago. Had I seen it in person (rather than ordered on the internet), I likely would have walked away. The awnings over the windows were poorly installed, crooked, and, in some cases, loose. I had to replace at least two of the awnings, despite the care I took in handling the caboose.
Worst of all, the lighting package for the SAL caboose is interior only and the marker lights are non-functioning. This was not advertised as clearly on the caboose that I bought, despite attempts to confirm the lighting package prior to my purchase. If only the literature for the caboose that I bought had been as clear as this recent literature. Oh, and that interior lighting? It just shows off the unfinished interior and the car's metal weight.
So, it's lights off, and I spent too much money for lighting features that don't exist on this model or won't be used.
