I picked up a Bachmann heavyweight passenger car for a steal, it was listed as needing repair with the predictably murky pictures making it difficult to surmise what the issue might be. For $15, for a car that lists for over $60, ( really Bachmann?) I figured it was a small gamble.

Turns out there must have been a short in the lighting rig, which toasted both of the 2 axle trucks.
I started rummaging through the bin to see if anything I could swap in. I have a pair of Kato passenger trucks complete with the light rig, but they are too long, and strike the steps when centered on the bolster. Same with the Rivarossi trucks I have in surplus.
Of course, the Bach Man's parts department is useless as an umbrella on a snorkeling dive, so I'm left with hunting down an after-market solution.
Before I throw the dice and order something that might not work, I wondered if anyone out there in Television Land has been confronted with this same issue, and devised a workable solution? If so, can you provide the proper manufacturer and part numbers so I can get this car back in revenue service? I would prefer not to have to modify the car to make the trucks work. It has body mounted couplers, so the new trucks don't need to be so equipped.
Thanks as always for your collective wisdom,
Lee
